About this role

About the Department

The Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health (PFRH) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is an interdisciplinary department focused on enhancing the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities across the life course. PFRH faculty research spans both domestic and international contexts, ranging from foundational studies to applied research, translation, and implementation projects conducted alongside international, national, state, and local partners. Our work considers multiple levels of influence on health, both biological and social, across different stages of life with an intergenerational approach to health. PFRH is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for all trainees, faculty, and staff. The department's graduate program attracts exceptionally talented trainees from both the United States and abroad. These learners actively contribute to the scientific literature and go on to hold significant academic positions and public health leadership roles worldwide after graduation. Most importantly, the department prides itself on having a history of strong mentorship for Assistant and Associate Professors and a supportive environment for collaboration and collegiality.

We are recruiting a full-time tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are particularly interested in individuals with quantitative expertise, skills, and experience in one or more of the following content areas:

  • Maternal health morbidities and mortality
  • Interventions to reduce disparities and promote health equity in maternal health
  • Digital health, AI, or other technologies to advance maternal health
  • Social, behavioral, and health systems factors that affect maternal health
  • Implementation and evaluation of maternal health programs and policies

Key Requirements

  • Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in public health, biology, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, demography, social science, or related fields is required. All tenure-track faculty are required to be on campus regularly throughout the year to actively participate in departmental and school activities and be accessible to trainees and colleagues. The successful applicant will:
  • Apply a life course perspective in pursuing innovative research in maternal health with a focus on the U.S. A portion of the research portfolio may include global work.
